Botox Cosmetic is the most popular brand name injectable wrinkle relaxer available in the U.S.
Botox has been used for years to safely prevent and smooth dynamic wrinkles, or wrinkles that occur with movement or expression, including forehead lines, crow's feet, glabellar lines (eyebrow furrows) and neck bands.
About Botox
Considering Botox Cosmetic
Is Botox Cosmetic right for you?
Botox Cosmetic injections are simple, non-surgical procedures that not only diminish the appearance of dynamic wrinkles but also prevent the development of static wrinkles, or wrinkles that are present all of the time, without expression or movement.
Men and women ages 18-65 may benefit from having routine injections of Botox Cosmetic every 3-6 months for wrinkle treatment. The most popular areas treated with Botox include:
- 11's or frown lines
- Horizontal forehead wrinkles
- Crow's feet or eye wrinkles
- Mouth wrinkles or smoker's lines
- Neck bands or platysmal bands

Botox Injections
What to expect during Botox injection
Botox injections typically take only about 15 minutes to administer. The injections cause very little discomfort, but if needed, a topical anesthesia may be applied before treatment to reduce discomfort.
The injections are placed in specific locations in doses measured per unit. Dr. Motlagh will determine how many units of Botox you need in each treatment area to effectively reduce your wrinkles without causing side effects.
Botox contains a neurotoxin that blocks nerve impulses in the isolated areas where it is injected, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkles while giving the skin a smoother, refreshed appearance.
Botox can also be used to relieve migraine pain and treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). If you suffer from either of these conditions, ask Dr. Motlagh about Botox for migraines or Botox for hyperhidrosis.

Botox Side Effects
Potential Botox risks and complications
Botox is a very popular and well-tested product, however some Botox side effects can occur, sometimes due to faulty injection technique. Temporary Botox side effects may include bruising, swelling and redness near the injection sites.
Other less common potential Botox side effects include facial sagging, such as drooping eyebrows, eyelid droop or a crooked smile, headache or flu-like symptoms. Rarely, patients may react poorly to Botox or develop an immunity to the product so that it does not work properly.
Report any Botox side effects you experience to Dr. Motlagh so that he can make adjustments for future treatments and let you know if pursuing treatment with a Botox alternative would be advisable.

After Botox Treatment
Downtime and recovery after Botox
Botox is known as a "lunch time" procedure because there is no downtime after Botox, so patients may return to work or normal daily activities as soon as treatment is complete. Makeup may be applied to cover any redness or bruising that occurs.
Do not touch or rub the Botox injection sites after treatment; this could spread the Botox to muscles you do not want affected by the treatment. You will also need to remain upright for about six hours after treatment and avoid alcohol to avoid complications.
The effects of Botox treatment are not instantaneous, but within 1-2 weeks you should see your final results. The areas treated with Botox on your face and/or neck will appear smoother, and it will be more difficult to create dynamic wrinkles. The effects of Botox treatment will eventually wear off, so you will need injections every 3-6 months to maintain your results.
