Breast implant exchange or revision surgery is essentially a redo surgery for patients who experience unsatisfactory outcomes or complications such as capsular contracture, rippling, rupture, deflation, symmastia and double bubble deformities after breast augmentation. Breast implant revision surgery can improve the look and feel of surgically enhanced breasts as well as relieve discomfort caused by more severe scarring and healing problems. About Breast Implant Exchange
The Best Breast Augmentation Revision CandidatesAre you considering breast augmentation revision? Many patients who have experienced a poor surgical outcome or are dissatisfied with their breast augmentation results choose to seek revision surgery. Typically, these patients are non-smokers in good physical and mental health who have waited at least six months after their initial breast augmentation to seek revision surgery. All wounds from your initial breast surgery should be healed prior to undergoing revision surgery, as operating too soon can further increase risk of infection and unsatisfactory scarring. However, if your initial breast augmentation resulted in infection, you may need to have surgery to remove your breast implants sooner rather than later to prevent potentially serious health problems. If your breast augmentation incisions are not healing or evidence of infection is present, discuss this with Dr. Motlagh immediately so he can determine whether immediate breast revision surgery is needed. Otherwise, wait at least six months before judging your results and seeking breast implant revision. Recovery After Breast Revision SurgeryWhat to expect after your revision The days and weeks following your revision breast surgery will be very similar to those following your initial breast augmentation. The recovery period after breast revision surgery is usually easier and quicker, but it may be prolonged when more severe complications or poorer outcomes require correction and the procedure is surgically more extensive than it was initially. When revision breast surgery is performed simply to change implant characteristics, such as size, shape, material or texture of the implant, then the recovery period is generally brief. Most patients return to work within 3-5 days and may resume normal activities within a week. More vigorous activity such as exercise and heavy lifting may be resumed within a 3-4 weeks after revision breast surgery. When changes to implant placement are made (i.e. moving the implant under the muscle when it was initially placed over the muscle), discomfort and spasms in the pectoral muscles may slightly prolong the recovery period after breast augmentation revision. Your breast implant exchange surgery may also involve scar revision, or improvement of scar placement and appearance, in the event that your initial surgeon’s lack of skill in artfully placing and closing your incisions or failure to properly coach you on necessary post-operative wound care resulted in unsightly scarring.
