Breast Lift

Mastopexy, or breast lift surgery, is designed to improve breast support and return sagging breasts affected by pregnancy and aging to a more youthful, perky position on the chest.  Most patients who make the decision to undergo a breast lift are glad they did, as restoring droopy breasts can not only improve your appearance but also give your self-esteem a boost.

About Breast Lift

The Best Breast Lift Candidates

The best breast lift candidates are typically women wishing to correct stretch marks and skin laxity that have occurred as a natural result of aging and breastfeeding children.

Women with excessively large breasts who choose to have a breast reduction also usually undergo a simultaneous breast lift in order to remove excess skin after unwanted breast tissue has been removed.

In contrast, the breast lift with implants may be recommended for patients who wish to both lift and enlarge or restore volume to their breasts. A breast lift is also sometimes performed in conjunction with liposuction and tummy tuck to provide more complete body contouring and rejuvenation, especially in moms wishing to get their pre-baby body back.

Breast Lift Scars

Breast lift scars are an inevitable part of a mastopexy because scars naturally occur when the skin is cut during surgery.  Surgical cuts, or incisions, are necessary to achieve the desired results of the breast lift procedure.

Depending on your individual needs and the severity of your sagging, Dr. Motlagh will make incisions around each areola (darker skin surrounding each nipple), which is called a periareolar incision.

An additional incision called a lollipop incision that runs vertically from the areola to the breast fold is generally needed to get a significant lift.

Severely drooping breasts may also require a horizontal incision along the breast fold in addition to a lollipop incision. This is called an anchor or inverted-T incision.

Breast lift scars can be minimized by avoiding the sun while your incisions heal and following your post-operative care instructions. Sometimes, silicone sheets and over-the-counter scar reduction products like Mederma may be recommended to minimize your breast lift scars.

Breast lift Recovery

Breast lifts are typically performed under local anesthesia with IV sedation or general anesthesia, both of which will cause you to “sleep” during the surgery, so you will need someone to drive you home or to your hotel after the procedure.

You will need to wait about 24 hours before getting your breasts wet after surgery. Since only skin and tissue are affected by a breast lift without implants and no muscle is cut, most patients can return to work within a few days of the procedure and domestic activities within a week.

Within 2-3 weeks after surgery, most patients can resume exercise and are considered completely recovered within 3-4 weeks.

Because absorbable sutures and surgical tape are used to close your incisions, stitches generally do not need to be removed after breast lifts, however you will need to return to Dr. Motlagh’s Tyler plastic surgery office periodically so he can check on your healing progress.

Tyler Plastic Surgery is conveniently located in Eastern Texas and serves not only Tyler breast lift patients but also breast lift patients from Dallas-Fort Worth to Shreveport, Louisiana and all the cities in between.
